As you might have guessed from the title of this post, I took the plunge and purchases a few lipsticks from the Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick Collection, although I did rain myself in quite a bit and only purchased 3 shades that I KNEW I would actually wear. I’m currently trying to find way to re-decorate and reorganise my room, so doing what I usually do and purchasing all the shades in a limited edition collection – when I KNOW I won’t use half of it – is not a viable option for me at the moment . . . I think I’m finally becoming an adult!
To give you a bit of context about the Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick Collection – £12.99 via Harvey Nichols – , Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing decided to pair up with L’Oreal Paris to create a 12 Lipstick Collection that would appeal to a wide range of women regardless of their age, skintone or background. As Balmain items are way on the pricey side of life – like £2,500 for a Blazer expensive – there are a lot of people who love the Balmain brand but just can’t afford it – like yours truly – so the beauty of campaigns like this is that I can indulge in the jewel-toned colours that have made Balmain iconic without draining my bank balance.
Now we know that L’Oreal Paris UK are going through a sh**storm after kicking Monroe Bedgof off their campaign – which they rightly deserve in my opinion – which is why I really wanted this post to focus more on the ‘dark skin’ friendly shades in the Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick Collection rather than chuck all my money into purchasing shades I knew wouldn’t work on my skintone all for the sake of a review. As a result this post will focus on the:-
- Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick in Domination
- Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick in Fever
- Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick in Power
Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Fever Lipstick
Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick in Fever is a gorgeous orange lipstick worn by the gorgeousness that is Maria Borges in the Balmain x L’Oreal Paris campaign’s image shots – which FYI is how I knew this colour would work on my skin tone (representation matters!). I really feel like I ought to be listening to Ray Charles Fever as I write this review on the Balmain x L’Oréal Paris Fever Lipstick – £12.99 via Harvey Nichols – as a mood setter – and it helps that I’ve always loved that song anyway – Encased in an emerald case, this matte lipstick gives summer time vibes that makes me wish the sun was still out with a 4/5 hours weartime
Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Domination Lipstick
With a name like Domination, you would think that the Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Domination Lipstick – £12.99 via Harvey Nichols -would set off alarms but this classic red lipstick has an understated elegance to it. Encased in an black case – which FYI is a little dull when compared to the emeralds and royal blue packaging from this collection – this cherry red lipstick looks and wears like a dream.
Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Power Lipstick
I’m sorry but I actually don’t really like the Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick in Power on my lips. The Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick in Power – £12.99 via Harvey Nichols – is a lot darker and cooler than the swatches on the Harvey Nichols website would lead you to believe. Personally I thought I would this colour more in my head than I did in reality – but don’t get me wrong, this lipstick is pretty – but I’m not a dark lipstick person and I always convince myself that I am every autumn only to give the lipstick to my sister
As I didn’t read any reviews before purchasing any of the lipsticks from the Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick Collection. I didn’t know what the consistency, finish or texture would be like until I swatched it for this post – talk about buying by faith – but I think I’m relatively happy with the colours in this range although I don’t think that the shades are anything exceptional and I probably have very similar colours in my makeup collection already.
Each lipstick in the Balmain x L’Oreal Paris Lipstick Collection costs £12.99 and is available to purchase from Harvey Nichols.
