Ok I must have a dud version of the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner because this eyeliner is unimpressive, uneventful and actually quite disappointing. Some of my FAVOURITE bloggers – shout out to Zoe NewLove & Laura Lou; both MUAs who know their shit – have had very positive things to say about this eyeliner and because I trust their opinions 100%.
When I typically review a liquid eyeliner, I rate it almost entirely on pigmentation as that is very important to me. I have dark skin therefore I need an eyeliner with a rich pigmentation base to not only stand out against my skin tone but also last the distance. As the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper is a luxury eyeliner, I thought that this liner was going to be AMAZING but it barely scratches the surface on what I feel a good black eyeliner should be.
The Kat Von D Tattoo Liner – £16 via Debenhams – is a “paraben-free, high-pigment, waterproof liner” that features a innovative, non-fraying, superfine flexible brush tip for fluid, effortless and precise application.
High-pigment my back foot!”
This eyeliner has the poorest pigmentation levels I have ever encountered in a luxury black eyeliner . . .and it smudges. Rather than being a true black shade, the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner is a weak grey-black colour that fades to a weak grey quite quickly
Another thing that REALLY grinds my gears about the Tattoo Liner is its longevity. I don’t have oily skin but I do suffer from Hayfever and have quite watery eyes so opt for waterproof eyeliners because they don’t leave me looking like a racoon but this eyeliner was dreadful because it barely showed up against my skintone, fades within a few hours AND it didn’t even stay where it was meant to.
I understand that a LOT of people love this eyeliner because of its precision tip – which FYI is amazing – but what good is the packaging and brush tip of an eyeliner when the formula is so weak?
The Kat Von D Tattoo Liner costs £16 and is available to purchase from Debenhams
