Until I tried the Kat Von D Underage Red Studded Kiss Lipstick, I was starting to think that the Kat Von D makeup range just wasn’t for me but I think that’s because I started off with the more “iconic” pieces in her range. I know that when Kat Von D brought out the Underage Red Lipstick there was a HUGE backlash in the media and online because of its . . . questionable . . . shade name which seems to sexualise teenagers.
Now I’m not here to preach as this is not my brand and I have no influence what Kat decides to call her beauty products especially as she claims that the name “Underage Red” is misinterpreted and the inspiration behind the shade name is a lot cleaner than that – you can read her statement on this here – but I did want to touch on the background of this lipstick before I launched into my review in case it comes up in the comments.
The Kat Von D Underage Red Studded Kiss Lipstick – £17 via Debenhams – is a cool-toned, cherry red lipstick with a matte finish. Designed after Kat’s signature studded cuff, the Underage Red Studded Kiss lipstick is designed to be lipstick “heaven on earth”. This pigment-rich lipstick is formulated with colour cushion technology to keep lips feeling velvety soft whilst delivering bold, long-lasting colour and full coverage saturation. Lips are also kept supple thanks to a powerful antioxidant complex infused with vitamins A, C and E.
It’s not often that I agree with a brand’s marketing spiel but Kat Von D knows what she is talking about – when it comes to this lipstick anyway – the Kat Von D Underage Red lipstick does feel very soft on the lips. I felt that it moisturised my lips throughout the course of the work day without a cheeky lunchtime touchup – and that’s saying something as I drink an OBSCENE amount of tea during the day – As you can see from my swatch above, this lipstick is ridiculously pigmented with a matte finish.
When worn from the bullet, the Kat Von D Underage Red lipstick applied very evenly and smoothly. It did not cling to any of the drier arts of my lips – which seems to be the case for most matte lipsticks
If you have never tried any of the lipstick shades from the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick range and are quite partial to rebut-red lips, then I would definitely recommend Underage Red. It ticks all the right boxes in terms of pigmentation, longevity and wear which is really what you would want from a luxury lipstick.
The Kat Von D Underage Red Studded Kiss Lipstick costs £17 and is available to purchase from Debenhams
