Shea moisture as a company is definitely well known for hair care, so I was really excited to try this oil and see how good their skin care products are!
The Shea Moisture African Water Mint Oil is part of Shea Moisture’s skin/body care product range. This is a multi-use oil aimed at those with dull and congested skin and it boasts loads of wonderful benefits.
The Shea Moisture African Water Mint and Ginger Detox Bath, Body and Massage Oil – £11.99 via Superdrug – is a refreshing, multi-purpose oil thats combines certified organic shea butter with African water mint and ginger to rejuvenate skin with an invigorating scent.
This refreshing oil can be used in the bath to create a fragrant spa-bath experience or gently massaged into skin after a shower or bath to help restore moisture and also protect against environmental stress such as pollution.
The included ingredients in this oil are really great for the skin. Shea butter is renowned for its ability to moisturise dry skin, African water mint is said to refresh the skin and enhance circulation, ginger protects and nourishes the skin, activated charcoal detoxifies and absorbs impurities and finally opuntia extract (prickly pear extract) has hydrating properties and can reduce skin inflammation, as well as prevent skin damage and acne.
So this ingredient list sounds like it can really get the job done when it comes to hydrating dull, dry and congested skin!

As you can probably guess from length of this product’s government name, the now know, the Shea Moisture African Water Mint and Ginger Detox Bath, Body and Massage Oil can be used in a variety of ways but the primary way that I used this is to moisturise after showers to rehydrate my skin and protect it from the winter elements.
I have to say that the oil feels luxurious on the skin. It absorbs into the skin easily and doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy.
What I loved most about this Shea Moisture Body Oil is the feeling of the oil once you apply it. The African water mint extract gives a tingling sensation on the skin which really feels like it’s helping your blood circulate more.
This body oil feels like Carmex on the skin.
After slathering this oil all over my body . . . I have to say that I am disappointed.
Like I am really, really sad because I wanted to love this Shea Moisture Oil so much!
I am someone who tend to suffer from dry skin in the winter months but I found that Shea Moisture African Water Mint and Ginger Detox Bath, Body and Massage Oil didn’t offer any hydration and moisture to my skin. I actually had to layer other moisturisers in addition to the Shea Moisture African Water Mint Oil – £11.99 via Superdrug – because my legs got dry quite quickly after use.
Even in combination with these other moisturisers, I can’t say that it really added any extra level of . . . anything honestly. So in terms of using the oil as a staple moisturiser I would say it doesn’t really work.
