It is not every day you get luxury concealers to review but when I saw the shade jumps between the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer in 5N, 6N and 6W, I knew actually needed to get my hands on the three darkest shades of this range to give you the TEA.

If there’s one thing that Laura Mercier does exceptionally well, its complexion products but come on guys, you had the chance to do something REALLY SPECIAL to sit alongside their cult setting powder range & cement themselves as a cult brand within the dark skin community but  . . . . they just didn’t do it.

The Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer is a 12 product range of oil-free, creamy concealers that have been designed not the crease. This medium to full coverage concealer”flexes with skin to seamlessly conceal under eye darkness and facial imperfections” and has been formulated for all day hydration that leaves a weightless, crease-resistant, natural finish with a blurring effect. As I said earlier I have the following shades at my arsenal:

  • Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Concealer in 5N
  • Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Concealer in 6N
  • Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Concealer in 6R

which are the darkest shades in the range.

I don’t think I could tell you know what I think about this concealer ranges formulation, consistency and weartime without addressing the shade jump issue, so let’s just get this out of the way.

How on earth did they go from 6N to 6W?? Is it just me or doesn’t it look like there should be 4 or 5 shades between those two colours! In fact  6W should be called 8W as that shade isn’t even in the ‘6’ family. It really grind my gears when brands do this as it just seems like a half-hearted attempt towards the melanin-rich market and guess what? WE CAN TELL!

Now let’s move on . . .

I’ve been using the Laura Mercier 6N Flawless Fusion Concealer for the last 2 weeks so I think I have a good grip on what this concealer can and cannot do. One thing that it can do very well is layering. One layer of this concealer gives the skin a very natural, barely there finish but two layers or more can block out imperfections without looking caked on or heavy.

I think the formula is creamy and long-wearing but I’m not blown away by the performance of this concealer and I have access to other concealers that perform a lot better. Now I do think this is a great concealer to wear to work or on a date BUT if I wanted to show up and show out – I just won’t reach for this.
